What Is a Site Soil Evaluation?

A Site Soil Evaluation assesses the physical and chemical characteristics of soil to determine its suitability for onsite wastewater and effluent disposal systems, including septic systems.

Our Site Soil Evaluation Scope of Work

Each Site Soil Evaluation Report includes the following:

Desktop Study

  • Review of the surrounding environment and site constraints

  • Identification of sensitive environmental features

  • Review of available geology and groundwater information using public datasets, including Geoscience Australia

Field Investigation

  • Mobilisation and demobilisation of one engineer and equipment

  • Preparation and implementation of a Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA)

  • Preparation of a site plan showing:

    • Land Application Area (LAA)

    • Borehole locations

    • Field permeability test locations

  • Excavation of three (3) boreholes within the LAA to:

    • 2.0 metres depth, or

    • Refusal (whichever occurs first)

  • Boreholes logged in accordance with AS 1726 – Geotechnical Site Investigations

Soil Sampling & Laboratory Testing

Soil sampling is undertaken on the assumption that site materials are relatively homogeneous.

Laboratory testing is undertaken in accordance with Department of Health requirements, including:

Laboratory methods align with recognized Australian testing standards and National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited procedures

Soil Classification & Interpretation

  • Soil texture classification

  • Soil structure and colour

  • Soil permeability rate

  • Interpretation of subsurface conditions across the site

  • Groundwater assessment (where encountered)

All classifications and interpretations are completed in accordance with AS/NZS 1547:2012.
