A Site Soil Evaluation assesses the physical and chemical characteristics of soil to determine its suitability for onsite wastewater and effluent disposal systems, including septic systems.
This assessment is typically required as part of:
The assessment is carried out in accordance with AS/NZS 1547:2012 – On-site Domestic Wastewater Management, published by Standards Australia
➡️ https://www.standards.org.au
Additional guidance for effluent disposal systems in Western Australia is provided by the WA Department of Health
➡️ https://www.health.wa.gov.au
Each Site Soil Evaluation Report includes the following:
Desktop Study
Review of the surrounding environment and site constraints
Identification of sensitive environmental features
Review of available geology and groundwater information using public datasets, including Geoscience Australia
➡️ https://www.ga.gov.au
Mobilisation and demobilisation of one engineer and equipment
Preparation and implementation of a Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA)
Preparation of a site plan showing:
Land Application Area (LAA)
Borehole locations
Field permeability test locations
Excavation of three (3) boreholes within the LAA to:
2.0 metres depth, or
Refusal (whichever occurs first)
Boreholes logged in accordance with AS 1726 – Geotechnical Site Investigations
➡️ https://www.standards.org.au
Soil sampling is undertaken on the assumption that site materials are relatively homogeneous.
Laboratory testing is undertaken in accordance with Department of Health requirements, including:
Laboratory methods align with recognized Australian testing standards and National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited procedures
Soil texture classification
Soil structure and colour
Soil permeability rate
Interpretation of subsurface conditions across the site
Groundwater assessment (where encountered)
All classifications and interpretations are completed in accordance with AS/NZS 1547:2012.
Your Site Soil Evaluation Report will include:
